Becoming Press is an independent net publisher specialising in minor theoretical literature. Since April 2023, we have released 12 books and 3 magazines—materials—as well as almost 150 traces (articles, essays, reviews, & interviews) published online—immaterials. As the project approaches it's third anniversary, its literature reaches greater distance and a wider audience, the cohort of authors and editors in Becoming's orbit have started to form a research group.

2025 was a big year; we started touring, holding book launches in cities like Lisbon, Berlin, Brussels, as well as a 5-day conference in Venice, where many of Becoming’s authors met for the first time. 2025 is the year that we reached Beijing & New York City, and we now work with over 30 beautiful bookstores around the world, independently. This was also the year that we started to really find our form when it came to design & production. We know who we are now, and we know what our strategy is. Perhaps most important of all, this year we spent a lot of time reading and thinking about what this practice we call publishing really is. We’ve been independently publishing books and magazines across multiple projects since 2018, and its taken a long time to start to see the bigger picture of literary flows, worlds made of language distributed by DHL in the form of books, magazines, or distributed through AWS architecture in the form of, well, electronic books. The organization of literature still has an impact on the unfolding of our world, and writers can still make a difference. It is as true today as ever that a control over media, literature included, is a necessary part of controlling the world—it is through literature that any big, bad, hegemonic symbolic order has been constructed, and it is perhaps, through literature alone, that malignant metastasis, can be broken down into something we can handle. Publishing is scaffolding, yes, you can build many things inside of it, but beyond a purely productive drive, it is through literature that you can sift for gold, dig your hands deep into and unearth all kinds of secrets–you can uncover many other symbolics, of all manner of minor variation. Not just us, but many, a thousand minor publishers disrupting Pelican because a million readers can synchronise no easier than, really, just reading, and speaking, and writing and thinking, and it will take an entire earthly-village to organize the god-damned, literature.
