Commentary

“One year ago, January 20th 2025, we launched Unconscious/Television, a book by Lucas Ferraço Nassif. Believe it or not, we had never done a book presentation until that moment. Our 8th book marked our first “public appearance”. Events were just not something we had ever imagined doing, it always felt too far off, but the opportunity came up and it sounded quite nice, a few days in Lisbon, away from the horrors of Berlin winter; it would be our first time back to the Mediterranean since leaving Cyprus in 2023. One thing led to another, and the presentation turned into a 3-day gathering, we prepared some lectures, some debates, and at the end, a film screening—our first collaboration with Open Secret.

So we left the basement and it was a really beautiful few days. We became friends with Lucas, and Becoming Press became friends with Open Secret. We got really lucky, and several people we knew (and some we didn’t) from Instagram flew into Lisbon. It was all very human… we met people that week who would go on to become besties and collaborators. Berlin had been so cold and isolating, that in comparison, Lisbon felt bigger than the world. “ — Claire Elise

"When Claire and Lucas first threw around the word ‘documentary’, I was totally overthinking the format and the way it would it be presented, do I have enough material to differentiate it from the lecture videos? But the way Lucas and Claire talk provided the poetic potential to bring out a flow that feels very genuine, playful and immersive and the music from Neuro… No Neuro added in the precious spirit of anime." — Polymnia Tsinti
