PPWR:
“Snađi se, druže”
On the 12th August 2026, the new EU-wide implementation of PPWR comes into effect, strongly affecting how small businesses can operate within the EU.
Unless anything changes in October when parliament votes on whether “micro-businesses” (less than €10 million per year in revenue) should be exempt from the new regulations — which would require small businesses pay 27 different annual license fees and contract an appointed representative in each country — then it is no longer plausible for micro-businesses to trade directly with customers across borders (within Europe). We are still able to send books to bookstores, and so we will survive this through the support of our community of partners and friends, but we will have to restructure how we distribue books — this will take some time to organize and fine- tune.
We remain hopeful that the worst-case scenario will not come to pass, but from today until such a decision is determined, we must close our online store throughout most of the EU (excl. Germany, Ireland & the Netherlands). Everything outside of the EU remains fully operational.
We are in the process of appointing “official” local representatives in each EU state, so that there is an online store in each respective territory that you can order from. Please refer to the distribution page on our website for our list of recommended partners.
Thank you for your enduring support.
N.B. We do not in principle object to the implementation of PPWR, we just hope that it will be developed in such a way that small business are able to pay a scaled contribution equivalent to the waste these measures make us responsible for. 2 people producing 1KG of waste per year is not the same as 50 people producing 10T.
