The Project(ions)

The project involves thinking our practice in terms of this ecological valency, of taking things from the Earth and putting things back. We’re unearthing a minor symbolic & burying one at the same time, committing ideas to the Earth in the form of secretions of language, like blood let from a hand. Our project is open-ended, without an end destination, but it will begin in the form of a practice. We will be working with old and new collaborators, to commission a series of written works which will be situated within the context of Becoming-Earth / Unearthing Becoming. What kind of body will form as these works come together is yet unknown.

When this project started, we maintained a practice of publishing works online, and we are very fond of the material published there, but it was early days, and we were using this practice as a way of connecting with people, exchanging ideas, and learning the ropes of publishing. After a while, our attention on this archive changed, as we began producing more materials (videos, interviews, and so on) which related to our physical publications, and started dabbling with events, we began paying less attention to a part of the project which was once the lifeblood of Becoming Press.

Sincerely, we have reached a point where our online publishing practice has to change, it has to become more intentional or purposeful. We came very close to closing the archive as it often felt lost, yet as our cursor hovered over the delete button, having spent a lot time creating a new back up of all the manuscript, we had a change of heart. How could we reanimate the old “publishing-machine”, and get it to synchronize with our primary theoretical output. In many ways, Becoming Press is a net publisher, made possible by the infrastructure of the internet, and it has always prided itself on the value of online publishing.

We wanted to see what would happen if we created a space within which to try a different approach. It isn’t always enough to just wait and see what is submitted, and its time that we practiced how to organize great literature. We are open to proposals and submissions and will be offering between €200–300 for each selected text.
